This intermediate level course will describe major central nervous system components and pathologic events in prenatal development, and identify the key aspects in gross motor development from birth to 18 months and its application to physical therapy interventions.

  • Describe the process of fetal and infant motor and sensory brain development.
  • Compare and contrast gait developmental theories and central pattern generation.
  • Discuss the interaction between brain regions and infant motor development.
  • Apply the concepts of biomechanics, physiologic changes, sensory integration and force production in infant gait performance.
